MIGRAINE PAIN

It's been 3 weeks and it just won't go away. Today I am home from work and have declared all out war on this migraine. A massage to jump start the blood flow - a dark room - ice to numb the pain - lavender oil to ease the anxiety - tea to sooth my soul.

Doctors are busy till Friday so I guess I'll go then.

ROTARY MEMBER

I am officially a member of the Red Rock Rotary Club. I should've joined back in 2006 when we went to the Door of Faith Orphanage in Mexico. For some unknown reason I delayed. But putting it off was no longer an option.

Rotary is about providing humanitarian aid, encouraging high ethical standards and helping with good will among all nations. I love ethnicity, diversity and learning about all cultures.

I like the motto - SERVICE ABOVE SELF - it sort of describes me. The combination of all things humanitarian and international makes this organization a perfect fit for me.

Rotary International has a birthday on Monday. It was February 23, 1904 when the first Rotary Club was established. Today, 1.2 million Rotarians belong to over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

I'm so excited to be a part of this worldwide organization.

Presidents Day in St. George brings the Parade of Homes, Baseball Tournaments and Soccer Tournaments. That means the roads are filled with non-local people and everywhere we go its crowded and annoying. That being said, my Valentines Day was spent watching soccer and spending the evening at home.

And what is Valentines Day without a Sugar Cookie? Instead of going out I spent the evening in my kitchen making a little bit of LOVE with SUGAR on top. Its a delicious taste sensation!

I finished Depak Chopra's story of Buddha and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and have come away with a brighter sense of illumination. Here's just one little piece that I read yesterday while waiting for the soccer game to start...

...suffering is a fixed part of life. Fleeing from pain and running toward pleasure will never change that fact. Yet most people spend their whole life avoiding pain and pursuing pleasure. To them, this is only natural, but in reality they are becoming deeply involved in a war they will never win.

Buddhists see suffering as the path to enlightenment. I think that without suffering we cannot know joy. You have to know the bad to recognize the good.

Lately I am reading so much of the Buddhist belief system. I am nearly finished with Buddha, The Enlightened One and every once and a while I refer to The Four Noble Truths from the Dalai Lama. Then just this weekend I watched the experience of Jill Bolte Taylor on ted.com where she explains her powerful stroke.

What an amazing experience for her to have as coherency passed from one side of the brain to the next. After watching her video it is easier to understand how a Buddhist Monk can disengage in a meditative state. I would like to be capable of such things.

UNWINDING ON FRIDAY NIGHT

St. George is saturated with Mexican restaurants which makes it difficult to eat out since my favorite type of food is Asian. But I have a few favorites - The Ricksaw, Panda Garden and BENJA THAI! Last night the kids were all hangin' with friends so we decided to unwind at Benja Thai. The food is DIVINE! Dessert was just down the street at the 25 Main Cafe and Cake Parlor where we delighted in Coconut Creme Cupcakes - HEAVENLY. Stopped at the Redbox on the way home for a chick flick then climbed into my electric blanket for some heat. It was the perfect way to dust off the stress of the work week.

This morning is beautiful and I'm eager to chill with my boys for the weekend...except right now they sleep while I make breakfast...

HOW I SPENT SUPERBOWL SUNDAY

Since today is the Superbowl and since my house is full of boys, being without TV is a bit of a nuisance. We went to church then after church they piled the snacks and soda (liquid poison) into the car and headed to my office.

Editors Note - I work for KCSG TV so there is a TV in my office. It is on all day long so the last thing I want to do when I am not working is to watch TV.

I am home enjoying silence and fixing dinner...which they most probably will not eat because by the time they get home they will be all jacked up on junk food and soda.

Don't get me wrong now. I like the Super Bowl just as much as the next woman but somehow the thought of silence in my home sounded so much more enticing.

Editors Note - Boys are very noisy.

So here I sit...in the silence...eating my dinner and blogging my first post for the month of February.

Editors Note - February is the month of Love! I love this month...

I'm reading a book called Buddha, A Story of Enlightenment by Deepak Chopra and true to its title I'm feeling somewhat enlightened. There is so much to read in this world...so many great things to please the mind and gladden the soul.

I'm kinda wondering why I'm not taking advantage of this silence by reading my book...on second thought...I think I'll join the boys at my office.
